Welcome to the Clint Loomis Fine Art Studio online.
The works reflect a love for color and drawing. I freely combine the mediums: watercolor, gouache, ink, charcoal, pastels and colored pencils to achieve the desired effects. As a work progresses, it has a way of suggesting solutions previously not anticipated. The gesture, line and color scheme are the elements which work together as directional aides, bringing cohesiveness to the imagery.
In recent years I have added gourd carving to the body of work. It allows me to tackle new ideas of form and texture and add them to the mix. Gourds are grown in various shapes: canteen, apple, pear, etc. The challenge is to wed the imagery to shape and then find ways to apply pyrography and carving techniques to bring out the images and patterns. I apply multiple thin washes of acrylic paint to enhance when needed. All gourds are finished either with several layers of polyacrylic or clear a clear resin product.
I have taught for 30 plus years beginning while a graduate student in the MFA program at Northern Illinois. University. My latest teaching has involved working with adults of all abilities. I teach from my gallery/studio in Lewistown, MT, both to small groups 6-15 individuals and for the Adult Education program. I also have considerable experience teaching art history.
